| HOME | Model 1880 22 mm
gilded brass button with royal crest and crown with initials "O P" (Orden
Público) Reverse is backmarked "I. DURAND / NEW YORK". Rare button of the
branch of the Spanish military in Cuba and Puerto Rico responsible for
urban security and anti insurgent operations. It may seem surprising to
find a Spanish uniform button from Cuba made in American, but it must be
remembered that the US was colonial Cuba's largest trading partner before
the Spanish American War. We supplied the Spanish with everything from
buttons to rifles in exchange for Cuban tobacco and sugar. Good condition.
