| HOME | Iron buckle with
tinned finish with detailed 'Snake' clasp. Made to fit a 2.5" wide belt.
Complete with two matching adjustment slides. Has some light oxidation.
Although brass examples are better known, iron variants are common enough
in both non-dug and excavated examples to document wide use by southern
forces. Naturally, I cannot document this one as Confederate, but it is of
the period and made in the correct style. I was lucky enough to come
across a very small quantity of these from the stock of the famous Beck's
Costume Co. in Cincinnati, known as the source for a number of 1864 dated
contract four button blouses. They went out of business in the 1960's but
a small lot of their stock recently came to light. Several available so
the one you receive will be as good or better that the one in the photos. A
rare opportunity to obtain one of these scarce variants. Good condition.
